Kessa scrub during a Moroccan bath at Sweet Summer Spa

The ritual, step by step

  1. Steam — a few minutes in warm steam to open the pores and soften the skin.
  2. Black soap — traditional olive-based beldi soap is applied over the body and left to work.
  3. Kessa scrub — a thorough exfoliation with the coarse kessa glove; this is where dead skin visibly lifts away.
  4. Rinse — warm water rinse-down on the marble slab.
  5. Finish — a light moisturising step so the skin is soft, not tight.

Everything happens in a private hammam room. Allow about an hour, and avoid perfume or lotion beforehand.

Why guests book it

A Moroccan bath is the deepest routine clean the skin can get without a clinic: dull, rough skin on the back, elbows, knees and heels comes away, and the skin underneath is smooth and bright. It is popular before events, after the beach, and as a monthly reset. Many guests pair it with a body massage, or book the two together for a couple in the couple room.

Not suitable for very sensitive or broken skin, sunburn, or recent skin treatments. Tell your therapist about any skin condition before you start.

Good to know

Moroccan Bath — questions before you book

What happens during a Moroccan bath?

You start in the steam room to soften the skin, then Moroccan black soap is applied and left to work. Your therapist scrubs the whole body with a kessa glove, rinses you down, and finishes with a light moisturising step. The full ritual takes about an hour.

Is it done in private?

Yes. The hammam is a private room; you are not sharing it with other guests.

How often can I have one?

Most guests come every two to four weeks. The scrub is thorough, so we don't recommend it more than once a week.

Can I add a massage afterwards?

Yes — the most popular pairing is Moroccan bath followed by a body massage. Book both on WhatsApp and we'll allow time between them.

What should I bring?

Nothing. Disposable underwear, towels and toiletries are provided. Skip lotions and perfume before you come — bare skin scrubs best.
